NORTH WOOLWICH SRF
London, United Kingdom
The North Woolwich and East Silvertown Strategic Regeneration Framework sets out a community-led approach to regeneration for a distinctive part of the Royal Docks, held between the River Thames and London City Airport. Shaped by trade, industry and community, from the working docks and Tate & Lyle to the People’s Plan of the 1980s, the neighbourhood is home to around 8,000 people, strong civic organisations and major employers. Yet it faces persistent deprivation and the risk of being left behind as regeneration gathers pace around it.
Under the vision ‘where communities and enterprise grow together’, the Framework guides the next 10–15 years through four interconnected strategies: Economy and Skills, Culture and Community, Food and Health, and Nature and Climate. Around 60 interventions are identified, with nine priority projects ranging from Pier Road Local Centre curation and a Museum of the Royal Docks to the Wild Woolwich Trail and a neighbourhood-scale retrofit pilot.
MOOWD supported Augarde & Partners in co-producing the Framework with Newham Council. We applied our Living Places Framework to bring People, Nature, Spaces and Economy into a single integrated system, and shaped the place ecosystem, spatial strategies and illustrative montages that carry the vision.
