OXFORD WEST END VISION
Oxford, United Kingdom
The Oxford West End Vision sets out a shared narrative and investment prospectus for one of the most significant urban growth opportunities in the United Kingdom. Prepared on behalf of the Oxford West End Landowners Group, it articulates how the district around Oxford Station, the River Thames and Osney Mead can become Oxford’s new centre of gravity: a connected urban quarter capable of effectively doubling the size and function of the city centre.
Bringing together research, stakeholder engagement, spatial analysis and strategic storytelling, the Vision frames the West End through seven interconnected themes, from Oxford’s Golden Opportunity and A City of Ideas to Where the City Meets Nature and Gateway to a Global Ecosystem. Each theme is grounded in an evidence base of economic, infrastructure and environmental metrics, and speaks directly to three audiences: investors and occupiers, government, and the existing community.
MOOWD led the authorship, design and visualisation of the Vision in collaboration with The Place Bureau. Under the idea ‘where a thousand years of thinking meet the next hundred years of making’, it positions the public realm, the Thames and the canal as the connective tissue that turns the West End’s individual development sites into a single, coherent place.
